Apparently, a proclivity for attempting to lose weight in ways that will damage their bodies in the long run. A study done on British jockeys recently revealed that many of them opt to lose weight in dangerous ways. This includes all the usual techniques of vomiting, skipping meals, and exercising in a sweat suit.
Amazingly enough, they do this even though they have access to professional nutritionists that will tell them exactly how to safely and effectively keep their weight under control. In fact, the study showed that most of the jockeys were actually more likely to opt for losing weight in a dangerous manner after speaking to an expert.
I realize that jockeys, much like models, have a career that completely revolves around their weight. But is it really so much better to do this than to just eat right and exercise? Personally, the idea of eating a huge meal with steak, mashed potatoes, all the fixings, and a banana split for dessert is completely ruined if I am doing it with the knowledge that I will be jamming my finger down my throat directly afterwards.
Give me the treadmill any day!
