All runners require a specialized pair of running shoes in order to reduce impact and strain on their ankles. Running is a high intensity workout due to the repetitive motion of the body, placing full weight upon one foot after the other in successive fashion. Aerobic exercise equipment for biking is both complex and expensive; a bicycle itself may cost several hundred dollars and require constant maintenance for superior performance. A helmet is essential, especially for busy areas, and costs only twenty to thirty dollars. Certain shorts reduce the discomfort of bike seats, and certain sport designed shirts will keep the body cool by expelling excess heat and moisture. For any bike, keep a set of backup tires and repair tools in a portable pouch in case of emergency.
